Props

At its core, remote theatre is all about simplicity, and does not attempt to replicate real life in the same way that film does. Therefore, having a remote stage cluttered with lots of different objects is neither necessary nor desirable. Having said that, a few simple props can set the context clearly and kickstart the audience's imagination, encouraging them to visualise what else might be in the world created on stage.

In the same way that actors can enter the stage in interesting or unusual ways, so too can props. We stimulate the audience's interpreting skills and imagination more by doing this. We don't want to make things too easy for the audience and we know that whatever the audience see on stage will be interpreted as a story anyway.

Of course the story created in their minds will not necessarily be exactly the same for each audience member. This is the beauty of theatre! What story comes to mind for instance with a scene which includes this moment?
